Essentials of Hospital Infection Control is written by a team of leading experts in the field of infection control. The authors have a combined experience of over 100 years in infection control practice, research, and education.

The lead author, Dr. William A. Rutala, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a past president of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA). He is also the editor-in-chief of the journal Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology.
