About Ashley Bryan
Ashley Bryan was born in New York City in 1923. He served in the US Army during World War II and later studied art at the Cooper Union and the Art Students League. Bryan began his career as a children's book illustrator in the 1960s. He has illustrated over 50 books, including many of his own.
Bryan's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Caldecott Medal and the Coretta Scott King Award. Bryan is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
